Incredible Launches

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been launching my Debut CD, Incredible.  So, what does it mean to Launch a CD?

On the 25th of August at Bomaderry Anglican Church and the 15th of September at Merrylands Anglican Church I held 2 launches.  For this CD, the launch was a little bit like a concert.  It was an opportunity for me to play some of the songs that are on the CD and play some samples of the tracks.  But the most important thing that happened at the launch is that I got to tell the stories of the songs.  Ever since the Bomaderry launch I’ve been hearing that people really enjoyed hearing what the songs were about.  How I came to write them.  What their meaning was.  And for an artist, that can be both really scary as well as really exciting.

It’s really easy for us to have our faith, and to keep it in a box, bring it out when we’re comfortable and hide it away when we feel ashamed of it.  At the launch I got to tell some of the stories about my faith.  Some, because I probably could have talked for a couple of hours about each song.  I hope to write some of those stories down and post them as blogs in the future, so that if you didn’t make it to a launch, then you can find out some of the stories that explain the songs.

In the last 3 weeks I’ve got to share those stories with about 120 adults and their associated children.  I’ve had both Christians, who have solid faith, as well as non-Christians and the undecided come and listen.  And from what I’ve been told, all have gone away with songs that speak to them and they have some things to think about.

That’s all I can really hope for.  That these songs will speak to people. And that from there, they can ask questions. And I hope that we can help to guide them towards the answer.

I said that it could be really scary and exciting to share your work with people.  But I’ve really enjoyed playing and talking to everyone.  It has been great to catch up with some old friends and to meet and talk to new people.  I’d like to thank everyone who helped with sound, set up/pack up, food and everything else that needed to be done.  At each launch the company and food was fantastic!  Thank you!

I really hope that I’ll get to do more of these in the future.  And I hope that this music will spread, and that people will ask “who is this music is about?”  And that’s where everyone else comes in…
